Who's Next!?! Part 1

BY COREY FLOYD
Last week Taraji P. Henson said in an interview that she would like to be Marvel Superhero. Which had me thinking not sure who she would be, but it would be cool.  So, I raise the questions with a few of my own answers. Who should be cast as a comic book character next?

After they went with another choice for Black Manta Michael Jai White been fiending to get back into the superhero scene. Perhaps with this Spawn reboot directed by Todd McFarlane himself, he should be a prime candidate to get back in the saddle again. If you read last week I wrote about the upcoming Venom movie which I am skeptical about a 2018 release,

but I’m looking past Venom I see Carnage. I would love to see a live action Carnage film now for years’ fans have been calling on Jim Carrey to play his human side of Cletus Cassidy, but Carrey has shown less interest in playing characters and that okay. I think we have a good replacement. How do I know because he has already proved it taking one of Carrey’s role Neil Patrick Harris would be a great Cletus has already shown he can play an insane killer look at AHS freak show to see it?
That my Draft Pick. On the Ladies side, I must admit I don’t have any Ideas on Taraji P Henson but I do have one for Beyoncé and I must admit it’s so cheesy it works. Beyoncé as DC’s Queen Bee is actually a match made in heaven especially after the way she was portrayed in Young Justice as a Leader of a country who uses her power of brainwashing her enemies’ leaders and making them her slave. I mean it's not farfetched her fans are called the Bey hive I mean she practically dressed like her at the Grammys.

My last one for today is She-Hulk. I don’t want a CGI She-Hulk, she as beautiful as she is strong and her natural charisma would flourish in the MCU as a character who can fight for right in the street as well as in the courtroom I can see no one else but Serena Williams to go gamma green. She would destroy this role the same way she destroys the court. That’s the life for now if you have any thoughts don't be afraid to drop a comment or hit us up on the messaging section.

GO GO POWER RANGERS!!! (spoiler free!! review)

By Corey Floyd

In 1992, there was a Japanese series called Super Sentai or Zyurangers that everyone enjoyed. The decision was made to adapt it for American audiences. The Saban production company decided to give it a name similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by better.

They presented American audiences with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Teenagers with attitude and token 90’s flair and stereotypes they hit our Saturday morning cartoons like a hurricane. They have been going strong for 24 seasons here with toys video games and 2 movies and then 2015 happened. In February of 2015,

A short film by Joseph Kahn hit YouTube. It was a Dark Reboot that was really good and too raw for children. (check it out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw5vcUPyL90&t=9s ) But it got people talking and a few months later they announced a reboot movie. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was made for 100 million dollars and is making it back and some.

The ranger cast consists very young actors with very little on their IMDB only one worth mentioning is Ludi Lin who plays Zack was recently in the ill-fated Netflix original Marco Polo. But their supporting cast is top notch. Bryan Cranston plays Zordon the Head in charge of the whole Power Ranger operation. It further proves that this man has no problem playing second fiddle to kids.

His second in command is a quirky little robot called Alpha 5 and he is voiced by Bill Hader. This Gentleman is a Saturday Night Live alumnus famous for his impersonations and sound effects. He is responsible for the Sounds of BB8 in the Star Wars franchise.

Our villain is Rita Repulsa and she is played by Elizabeth Banks.

To say she is a hard-working actor would be an understatement. She written, produced, directed, and starred in some of the Hollywood's most lovable movies over the last few years. You were laughing at her in Zack and Miri make a Porno or you wanted her to fall in love with Emmett in The Lego Movie and now she green mean and a total badass.

I will not give you details on this film but there is a good chemistry as well as an origin story. They play around with their pg-13 rating to get laughs from everyone. There is just enough cheesiness in the film to make you feel all nostalgic for Saturday morning cartoons as well as starting a new adventure for the new generation. There was a lot of talk about this being a dark reboot. It wasn’t it’s 2017 and for some of us, it’s not all sunshine & rainbows especially if you’re a superhero. It wasn’t “dark” it was real. Don’t be surprised to see them coming back to your theater soon.

VENOM 2018!!! I'm not buying it

By Corey Floyd

Last week Sony announced that they are doing a Venom film to be released in 2018. Now this sounds good, but I took a deeper look. According to my sources they are not even in preproduction. The only names attached to the project are a couple of screenwriters and a producer. Dante Harper is writing for Venom. His credits are a bunch of behind the scenes documentaries, so I guess he’s gonna be doing that. The other writer attached is Jeff Pinkner who wrote the Amazing Spiderman 2. He is also the executive producer of the DARK TOWER film, and has written the upcoming Jumanji sequel starring the Rock. Now this writing team doesn’t sound too bad, but I must admit the producers do makes this sound a lot better. We have Avi Arad most known for his work under Iron Man and the first two X-Men films. To be honest, he has been more involved in comic book related entertainment than anyone else in the industry. The other producer is Scott Rosenberg, most known for “High Fidelity,” “Con - Air,” and “Gone in 60 seconds.”
This is a pretty wild mix, right?
Sony said that Venom will not be part of the MCU. I doubt that. I think they need to play ball. Overall, I’m not buying a 2018 release. Like I stated earlier, they are very far away from just basic pre-production, casting etc. I see this as a 2019 thing. If they try to rush this movie, I predict that it will be a huge failure.  But hey, I could be wrong. (I’m usually not tho… lol)

Iron Fist…. More like Tin Fist! TV Review

By Corey Floyd

Hey, Folks! Now a about a week ago, I did a piece about Iron fist not being about appropriation. I was even looking forward to the series. I just finished it ………………. LAME! This was the Last piece of the puzzle before we get the Defenders on Netflix and it wasn’t great.

Finn Jones previously known for playing Loras Tyrell on Game of thrones is our hero. I feel that this is not the role for him. His acting comes off too stiff. I don’t think he ever picked up the comic to study the character which would have been essential to capture this character correctly.

The fight scenes were okay I guess.  IF DAREDEVIL DIDN’T DO IT BETTER. The fight scenes that don’t involve him went well. Any fight that involves him was stiff. You can see them counting their moves and because of his ridiculous hair style, his stuntman can only do so much.

The supporting characters and antagonists were actually really good except for a few assassins but that might have been Jones fault for lack of physical prowess in choreography. The storyline isn’t that bad, but it is swiss cheese. I will not spoil it because you won’t remember it anyway I hope the Defenders will save Iron Fist or maybe they will recast him before they do a second season.

(P.S Defenders just finished filming) The only thing that saved this was the supporting cast and the fact that I love Rosario Dawson. Iron Fist was an Iron Miss.
